Installing Qwitter

This document will describe in detail the process of installing Qwitter on your system.

system Requirements

Qwitter is known to run on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. If you know it runs on other operating systems please add them here. If running Qwitter produces an error like "the program was unable to start because the configuration is incorrect", you can try installing The Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package 32-bit or The Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package 64-bit depending on whether you're using an x86 32 bit or x64 64 bit platform.

Downloading Qwitter

Qwitter is available freely for download at the Qwitter-client.net download page.

Installing Qwitter

Launch the downloaded .exe file. On Windows XP, if you get an "open file security warning" dialogue, click run. On Windows Vista or Windows 7 you may have to answer a User Account Control prompt. (Somebody check this out to make sure)? When the "set up Qwitter" dialogue appears, click next. The MIT license will appear. If you agree with the license, click the "I accept the agreement" radio button. you can get to it by pressing tab once after the license agreement appears. If you do not agree you can cancel or choose the "I do not accept the agreement" radio button. click next.

the next page of the dialogue lets you choose where you want Qwitter to be installed. If you need to change it, you can type the desired path into the edit field or click the browse button and locate the desired installation destination that way. When that's all set, click next.

the next page of the installation dialogue allows you to choose the start menu folder. Again, if you need to change it, you can, well, edit the edit field or choose the browse button. click next when done.

Next will be a page asking you to select the additional tasks you wish to perform. There are two checkboxes. "Create A Desktop Icon" and "Add to Startup". the first checkbox, if checked, will put a shortcut to launch Qwitter on the desktop. The second will put a shortcut in the startup folder, resulting in Qwitter being automatically started when your computer boots up. click nest when finished making choices.

Next is a page letting you review your installation choices. If you don't like any of the settings you can hit the back button until you get to the page with that setting and change it before pressing the next button until you get to this page again.

the installation process will now begin. It should take under a minute. when installation is complete, a page will appear with two checkboxes, one will allow you to display the documentation and the other allows you to launch Qwitter, after you press the finish button.
